It can be referred to as a network of organizations, trained personnel and facilities within a country; which are used to provide medical services to the population. This paper aims to make comparisons between the healthcare systems of the U.S. and Italy. Healthcare and Hospital System (The U.S. and Italy) Developing countries are characterized by ageing populations and advancements in technology have impacted on the way healthcare services are delivered in such countries. The HEALTH CARE AND HOSPITAL SYSTEMS 3 United States is located in North America whereas Italy is located in Europe and has one of the oldest populations in the continent. The two countries vary in terms of the size of their populations, standards of living, size of their economies, quality of healthcare personnel, nursing education and cultural practices. U.S. comprises of a population of over 316 million people whereas Italy has a population of over 59 million people. The US has a life expectancy rate of 79 years whereas Italy has a life expectancy rate of 81.5years. Annual spending on healthcare in the U.S. during 2014 was over $2trillion whereas in Italy, healthcare spending costs accounted for 9% of GDP (Carollynn, 2014).
